What I think of what we have read is interesting, to know what life was like in the 1900s. I liked how the book told about the lives of Americans, and the lives of the immigrants. American has changed drastically. In the 1900s men would get paid more than women, unlike today where they earn the same pay. Also the lifestyle for immigrants in the 1900s were very different from today.
The book that we are reading, The Woman’s Factory Strike of 1909 is interesting. I do not think it was fair that women and girls were treated different then boys and men. I also think it wrong that they work more and are paid half as much as men are paid. Girls had to leave school at the age of 16 to go work while boys could carry on and even go to collage.
I believe America has changed a lot since then but there are still some disputes. Some changes are that women can vote and they have a say in political issues. It is said that women still get paid less than men in the same jobs. By Kristy!
What I think of what we have read so far in the book is that it is very interesting and different because it talks about how the life was back in 1909 and how some of the people were being treated. I think it was interesting because it explained about how certain people like immigrant Jews and woman were being treated different from how the Americans and men were treated because the woman got paid less than the men even though they still worked very hard. Also I think that it’s not right how the woman had to quit school at age 16 to start working and the men were able to finish high school.
I think that America has changed a lot from 1909 , the immigrant’s lifestyle changed because the Jews are able to live with the Americans and are being treated the same way and have the same lifestyles. Also the woman are being treated equally with the men and are being paid the same amount of money also they are able to finish there education before they start working.
I think that this book is interesting with the way it talks about how different people were treated. I think that it was kind of weird how the shirtwaist women were paid. Another thing that I found interesting was how the Jewish people were known as.
I think America has changed a ton than was it was back in 1909. The men and women of America today are paid the same amount of money than they were back in the early 1900's.
To me this book is very informative. I did not know that those terrible things such as the tenements and Jewish discrimination had ever happened in America. I think it was horrible that the women had to leave school at 16 and learned only about materialistic things through movies and stores. I thought that the mothers who had to stay home while their husbands studied were very overworked.
I don't think that modern America is the same as America in 1909. They are similar because they are the same country, but nowadays women are allowed to go through high school and college. In 1909, building regulations did not exist, so many people who lived in the lower east side of Manhattan had to share beds with complete strangers. For these reasons I am glad to live in modern America as opposed to 1909. BY BRANDON!
The book “the women’s factory Strike of 1909, we shall not be moved” is a very interesting book so far. The book explains the life of immigrants and women in the 1900s of New York. The women get paid less than the men and they are treated with less respect. Immigrants were basically not welcome because they were let in to the country but they can only live in the lower east side of Manhattan. The Immigrants worked day and night, they took shifts on the beds, and whoever worked at nights sleeps in the morning and whoever worked in the morning worked at night. The immigrants took a bath, not a shower, only once a week, they had to boil the water before they did it. They had to wash their clothes with their hands and hang them out to dry; Most of the immigrants were Jews.
The women were treated very badly but not as bad as the immigrants. The women couldn’t go to high school because they have to drop and get a job at the age of 16 while the men can go on and finish high school and go to high school. America has change a lot since then, the women get treated as good as the man and get paid the same amount and can drop put or finish high school and go on to college. Immigrants are treated the same as anyone in America and they can live anywhere they want. They don’t have to take turns on beds, wash clothes using hands, and having them out to dry because the washing machines and dryers are now invented.
I think the book is very intersting and sad. It's intersting that how races and mostly women were treated back then. I also find interest that how tecehnolgy was used back and they didn't have much. For example most people who lived in buildings also known as apartments they had to boil water so they could take a hot bath. And I also think that most things that are nesserary in everyday life had to be done by hand.
I also think that the book was sad the way race and mostly women were treated back in 1909. Girls would have to drop out of school at the age of 16 while boys kept going. I also think it was wrong that mangers during work hours would have loop holes so that women would work harder and longer. Jews were also treated bad because of where they came from and that they had to sleep in apartments filled with bugs. Overall the book is good, intersting, sad, and educational the book is good.
I think the book is very sad. It is sad to me that the Jewish people were treated so poorly because they were immigrants. Their living conditions were awful as they could only have one bath per week. They had to take turns sleeping and had to get water from a faucet.
For the most part, America has changed for the better. We have equal respect for every religion. Now most of the people have a home or a place to stay. We can take a shower more than once a week and can sleep comfortably in our home. America has chanced dramatically and it will never stop getting better.
The book is intresting in the way it talks about life for workers in the early 1900s.It is unfair though how female and immigrant workers were treated. The fact of women earning less money and being fined if they do anything like talking or using the restroom for too long was unfair. Our current working system is extremy better and much more fair.compared to the modern day working system the system back then seems almost cruel. It is much better working conditions now.
